Chinese Flowering Chestnut /Xanthoceras Sorbifolium/
From China. It is a large shrub or small tree, up to 4m tall. The leaves are arranged alternately, 12-30 cm long. The shape of the crown and the leaves resemble rowan. Blooms in May at the same time as lilac. Flowers white, 2-3cm in diameter. Inflorescence length 25cm. In May, the whole plant literally disappears under the flowers. Hardiness zone from 4. Leaves aromatic. Sun-lover, grows in well-drained, sufficiently moist, fertile soils. Only new plants can be replanted because they form a strong stalk root that should not be injured. Fruits are small nuts, sweet, edible. So far, it is still rarely grown in Latvia, but completely winter-hardy.
