A novelty for rarity lovers. It is a medium-sized tree, reaching a height of 8-21m. Shoots greyish brown. Leaves large, heart-shaped, 8-20cm long, 7-20cm wide. The flowers are small, yellowish-green, fragrant, hanging in bunches 13-30 cm long. The fruit is a berry 5-10mm in diameter, orange to dark purple-red when ripe. The fruit can be eaten, both fresh and processed. Hardiness zone 5, (-28 °C). Blooms in late spring, early summer. Requires moist, slightly acidic soils, but also tolerates calcareous soils. May suffer from late spring frosts. Will be grateful for additional phosphorus-containing fertilizers. Stands out with a charming scent. Very decorative tree.
