American Silverberry /Elaeagnus Commutata Syn. E. Argentea/
Shrub with silvery-white, leathery, ovate leaves. The color of the leaves is due to the silvery star-like hairs that densely cover both sides of the leaves; at the bottom along the veins the hairs are rusty. Shoots gray-brown, with rust-colored scales and star-like hairs. Flowers funnel-shaped, small (1.2 cm long), yellowish inside, silvery on the outside, very fragrant. The fruit is ovate, about 1 cm long, with a dry, sweet flesh. In Latvia's gardens and parks usually grow as 1.5-2 m high shrubs. Blooms from May to July, the fruits ripen in September. Very good winter hardiness.
