In the wild grows in southern Europe from Spain to the Caucasus. Shrub up to 2 m tall, shoots grayish-haired, leaves elliptical or lanceolate, 2-5 cm long, pointed or blunt, with a round or wedge-shaped base, dark green on the surface, shiny, pale at the bottom, flowers pinkish yellow, 0.8 cm wide, blooms in June. Fruit spherical, coral red to bright red, ripens in October. Planted alone or in groups (one plant per 1 sq / m), in hedges. Planted in normal garden soils, grows better in heavy, calcareous soils, sun or semi-shade. If growing in the sun, it is mandatory to cover in winter.
