Christmas Rose Or Black Hellebore /Helleborus Niger/
The earliest flowering perennials. In the warmest snow-free winters, Christmas roses bloom after the first frosts already in December-January, but usually in March and April. Thanks to their amazing ability to bloom even in winter, they have acquired such name Christmas roses, although they have little in common with roses, because they belong to the iris family. Snow roses bloom glamorously in one place for even ten or more years, if the conditions for their growth are suitable. The main thing - to provide loose, neutral or slightly alkaline, humus-rich loamy soil. Christmas roses do not like acidic, heavy and moist soils. They feel best in a light shade. Tolerates other plants well. They bloom profusely in the shade of trees or shrubs. Excellent allies are tiny spring flowers - winter aconites, squills, "glory-of-the-snow" and early spring flowering Cornelian cherry and witch hazel bushes.
