In the wild grows in southeastern North America. Up to 2 m high shrub. Leaves elliptical to lanceolate, 3-8 cm long, finely toothed, lashed along the edge, hairy on the surface. Flower buds form in autumn. Flowers overhanging in long (5-10 cm) bunches, white, ovoid cup-shaped 5-6 mm long, bloom in May.
